The subtitle reads "Facts, figures & statistics for every populated place in the United States," and then lists categories of history, geography, population, religion, weather, economy, taxes, industry, housing, education, income, safety, transportation, health, and parks. Arrangement of material is in four volumes pertaining to regions, and within each volume, alphabetically by state, then by county, then by place. Drawing data from Census Bureau and other government and non-government sources, the new edition contains information on more than 42,000 places (1,000 more than the previous edition), and includes 20 more information fields. Each state's section begins with a map of the counties and a listing of places. Each entry includes location and elevation, population and demographic statistics, a few lines of history (more for the bigger places), and information about income, taxes, employment (by occupation category), home ownership (e.g. median home value, rent, and age of housing), school districts (with phone numbers), transportation and travel time to work, and for some, phone numbers for additional information.
